Cold-formed steel (CFS), also known as light-gauge steel — steel shaped at room temperature into thin, strong structural framing components. It is the same material system FrameUpNow uses across its homes and ADUs.
A pitched roof sheds water and snow away from the container rather than letting it sit on a flat top, and it creates a ventilated space above the container. It also lets a container structure take conventional roofing materials.
Any trade can work with steel framing. Components are joined with screws suitable for steel, and FrameUpNow holds training sessions for framers and publishes a series of assembly videos.
Cold-formed steel is 100% termite proof and does not rot. It is also non-combustible, which is one of the reasons it is used for building in wildfire-exposed areas.
